Device-Specific Passkey Instructions

Step-by-step passkey setup instructions from Apple and Microsoft for your specific device.

If you are encountering issues setting up a passkey, here are the exact steps provided by your device's manufacturer.

Apple Devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac)

Apple uses iCloud Keychain to securely save and sync your passkeys across all your Apple devices.

Setting up on iPhone or iPad (iOS 16+):

  1. Ensure iCloud Keychain is enabled: Go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Passwords and Keychain, and turn on "Sync this iPhone".
  2. On our website, click the button to set up a passkey.
  3. When the Apple prompt appears, tap Continue.
  4. Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your iPhone Passcode.

Setting up on Mac (macOS Ventura+):

  1. Ensure iCloud Keychain is enabled: Go to System Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud > Passwords & Keychain, and turn on "Sync this Mac".
  2. On our website, click the button to set up a passkey.
  3. When the Mac prompt appears, click Continue.
  4. Authenticate using Touch ID or type your Mac login password.

Windows PC

Windows uses Windows Hello to securely store passkeys. You can authenticate using a fingerprint, facial recognition, or your Windows PIN.

Setting up on Windows 11:

  1. On our website, click the button to set up a passkey.
  2. A Windows Security prompt will appear. Select This device or Windows Hello.
  3. Authenticate using your Windows Hello PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition.
  4. The passkey is now saved directly to your Windows device.

Setting up on Windows 10:

  1. Windows 10 passkey management is older. When you click to set up a passkey, it may confusingly ask you to "Insert your security key into the USB port."
  2. You do NOT need a USB key. Click "Cancel", "Other options", or "More choices".
  3. Select "Windows Hello or external security key".
  4. Enter your standard computer PIN (the same one you use to unlock your computer screen).
  5. Your passkey will now be saved securely using Windows Hello!

Cross-Device (Using your Phone on a Computer)

If you want to log into a shared family computer or a computer without a PIN/Touch ID, you can use your smartphone instead. Important: Bluetooth MUST be turned ON for both the computer and the phone for this to work. The devices use Bluetooth to verify they are physically close to each other.

  1. On the computer, click to sign in with a passkey.
  2. Choose "iPhone, iPad, or Android device".
  3. A QR code will appear on the computer screen.
  4. Make sure Bluetooth is ON for both devices.
  5. Open your phone's camera and scan the QR code.
  6. Follow the prompt on your phone to use Face ID/Touch ID. You are now logged in!
